Hate crime, discrimination, racism are all violations of human rights that may be rooted in Islamofobia.Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights provides that everyone has the right to freedom of religion, with the freedom to manifest religious belief being subject only to limitations that are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or the protection of the rights and freedom of others. Of particular concern in relation to Article 9, is the policy of Danish political parties, demanding Muslim's renounce Sharī‘ah (الشريعة) before they are allowed to stand as candidates. There have been at least three documented cases of this taking place. This policy may take place in other countries as well. Such demands clearly constitute a violation of religious freedom. As far as I know, none of these cases have been to court, nor have any of the political parties apologised for this behavior.Wassalamualaikum wr. wb.Brian Durant
